The World of Cap and Trade
Killing Coal...
As goes coal, so goes Kentucky's economy.
Pulling the Plug...
"Ha! I've got you by your electric cord..."
Coal is under a Washington assault these days,
with Ben Chandler leading the way to
pull the plug on Kentucky coal-generated electricity.
The EPA, armed with the Clean Water Protection Act 2007 & 09,
both co-sponsored by Ben Chandler,
has put the brakes on permits for
79 surface mines in 4 states. 49 of these are in Kentucky.
Surface mined coal from Appalachia
generates electricity for 24.7 million customers.
Environmentalists, empowered by the Obama administration,
and "our Ben", are more shrill now than ever.
Armed with the same old rhetoric of death and destruction,
"greenies" seek to eliminate surface mining,
killing a major source of electricity for millions of Americans,
and most notably, Kentuckians.
Arm yourself with FACTS, not hysteria.
Fact one: If Ben gets his way, Kentucky jobs will die.
Fact two: Kentucky utility costs will soar.
Visit the Kentucky Coal Education website to learn all about Kentucky's most valuable natural resource.
Ben has promised thousands of new "green jobs".
It figures they would be union jobs...
It's called "greenmail"...
Use union labor for green projects, or else!
Putting it all together...Ben can "kill two birds" with one vote!
Wanna see how much money Ben gets from unions?
Speaking of birds, did you know that wind turbines
kill between 75,000 and 275,000 birds per year,
including hawks and eagles?
Environmentalist outcry????
The silence is deafening.
Ah yes...give me the simple life!
A lump of coal, an old fashioned power plant,
Those good old "black diamond" jobs...
You can become a "Green Ambassador" in Kentucky!
Ben has allowed you to pay for it...praise be to him!
At last we get to see what those Stimulus dollars can do...it's glorious!
Ever wonder why they never tell you
what the "green jobs" are???
Click here for an interesting article on the effect the anti-coal bunch have had on the Navajo and Hopi tribes...heartbreaking.
This is what Ben is trying to do to Kentucky.
Update:
Thousands turn out to support coal at EPA hearing in Pikeville!!!
"The Lord didn't create very many things without a purpose, but mosquitoes and the EPA come close, I think!"

CAP AND TRADE GIVES OBAMA "EMERGENCY" POWERS!!!
Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade contains an obscure but nasty bureaucratic provision that
requires President Obama to act like Venezuelan strong man Hugo Chavez.
The bill actually does mandate that a “climate emergency” be declared by the federal government
when global greenhouse gas concentrations – which are not something which the bill or the United States
can control and over which we have a decreasing influence each day – reach 450 parts per million.
Which the bill’s authors knew would already be the case by the time the bill was adopted.
When David Vitter (LA) asked Obama's EPA Administrator what would be done in such a situation, she refused to say.
So it must be asked: Would the president be empowered to do things like nationalize whole sectors of industry,
ban coal use, restrict private automobile use, or anything else the “emergency” requires?
Chandler on Cap and Trade Nov. 5, 2009 in his Washington office:
"Well, first of all it's not killing anybody,
because it hasn't passed anything..."
Excuse me, Congressman, but it passed the House by 2 votes...and yours was one of them. |
Imagine this...Global Warming stopped 10 years ago!
Climatologists are baffled...and just now getting around to reporting it!
Could it be the sun is cooling...or ocean currents have changed?
Quote:"If the deep waters of the Pacific are, in fact, the most important factor holding up global warming,
climate change will remain at a standstill until the middle of the next decade.
But if the cooling trend is the result of reduced solar activity, things could start getting warmer again much sooner.
Based on past experience, solar activity will likely increase again in the next few years.
What does coal have to do with either of these scenarios?
It's not science, folks...it's an ideology, driven by a lot of money and power.
So when do we resume digging and burning our coal, and getting on with life?
I'm tired of being held hostage!!! Aren't you??????
Another take on the energy "crisis"...Sweden is supposed to be the ultimate socialist utopia, right?
Well then...Do it the Swedish way...burn bunnies!!!!
If there's anything that's renewable, it's rabbits!!! Right?

"I believe we must address the root causes of the economic crisis - such as high energy costs
and the housing market- while doing all we can to quickly jump start the economy."
Quoted from Ben Chandler's website.
Address high energy costs? -Chandler voted to tax and ration energy, while
Giving Obama emergency powers over distribution of energy.
This would allow EPA officials regulate just about every aspect of the market
and guarantees there will be economic pain.
Wall Street Journal: Time for Inaction on Global Warming
Quote: "The Boxer-Kerry Senate bill would require a 20% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions by 2020.
As a practical matter, what would such a reduction mean to us and our economy?
Car and truck miles travelled would have to be reduced by one-third.
The amount of coal burned to generate electricity would have to be cut in half.
So we would close more than 200 of our coal-fired power plants.
That would reduce our electricity supply by some 800 million megawatts.
To replace those millions of megawatts with non-hydro renewable power sources
like wind, solar and geothermal power
would be virtually impossible.
Like Waxman-Markey, Boxer-Kerry would expand the control the government has
over the American economy, businesses, and individuals.
It would have little impact on reducing global warming but would significantly depress our economy."
If the House, with Ben's help, had rejected Waxman-Markey Cap and Trade,
this would be a dead issue.

Cap and Trade: A tax with built-in continuous increases:
Quote: "Under the scheme, the government would issue fewer allowances each year,
causing the cost of the permits to rise.
The cost of these allowances is a tax, and under Waxman-Markey, the tax would rise each year.
As with any tax, it will ultimately be passed on to consumers in the form of higher energy and product prices."

Ben Proud of Cap and Trade vote!!!
Ben informs us that he has FOUGHT
to save rural Central Kentucky communities
from high energy taxes by securing 30 million allowances
(carbon credits) for our rural electric cooperatives.
Ben was well paid for "fighting" for Kentucky. RECCs are not-for-profit consumer-owned electric
utilities. Many in Ben's district are dependent on RECCs
for power.
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association PAC
is listed as one of his top contributors every year
according to Opensecrets.org:
2003 - 2004: $11,000;
2005 - 2006: $7,999;
2007 - 2008: $9,743
To date since last election: $4,000 TOTAL = $32,742.

The death of the fixer-upper.
One of the items in Cap and Trade is the requirement
for homes to pass an environmental inspection.
Read here to see one impact these inspections:
Families who want to purchase a home in less than ideal condition and remodel to their own tastes will be unable to do so. The law would require that the seller replace non-energy compliant appliances, windows, etc. as revealed by inspection prior to a sale. This has great impact on both buyer and seller. |
