Definitions of the words "constituent" and "listen"
come from personal experience with Ben.

I approached Ben as he was leaving the LBAR luncheon on Aug. 17, 2009 at the Red Mile.
He had refused to have Town Hall meetings or appear on local talk radio.
In essence, if you had a question for Ben, your participation was not welcome.

Lest you think Ben had any reason to feel threatened by a Kentucky housewife;
there were 13 police officers on duty specifically to protect him.
Ben also had a staff of at least 4 personal body guards;
3 plain clothes and 1 brawny guy in jeans and T-shirt with a nice big pistol in a hip holster.
Surely Ben's rudeness was not motivated by fear of a simple homemaker!

Ben finished glad-handing with luncheon attendees and floated across the room
surrounded by the body guard contingent when I approached him.
I smiled and stuck out my hand, and said, "Hello! How are you!"
He responded in kind, but suddenly turned nasty when I expressed disagreement with him.

I asked him to come and speak to voters.

His tone of voice turned nasty...he quickly withdrew his hand,
rolled his eyes BIG and stared at the ceiling in the opposite direction from me.
After a clipped conversation, he and his body guards hurried out of the room as I stood and stared.

This is Ben Chandler away from the crowds...free to be himself.

I had wanted to shake his hand and look him in the eye.
The first of these two was accomplished...
The second, however, would have required stapling myself to the ceiling.
